Multifamily DBT Group at MCG: Strengthening Family Bonds

Adolescent DBT Group

MCG is now accepting referrals for a Teen DBT Group. This group meets on Wednesdays from 4-5:30pm and is run by Adam Gilman, LCSW in person.

This groups covers the essentials of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) in a classroom-like structure where skills are taught in the areas of Emotion Regulation, Interpersonal Effectiveness, Mindfulness, Middle Path Skills, and Distress Tolerance. We follow Alec Miller’s DBT Group protocol and use his manual as well as some handouts from Dr. Marsha Linehan’s manual. Our program is 24 weeks long and includes four modules that are six weeks each. Participants agree at the outset to complete all 24 weeks of the program. Adolescents in the Teen Group range in age from 14-18 years old.

These groups offer a unique opportunity for both teens and parents/caregivers to learn DBT skills alongside one another. To be most effective, it is recommended that parents/caregivers of teens be involved in the teens treatment through a combination of family and group therapy sessions.

To join the group or for questions, contact info@mcg.works.

Before joining the group, each prospective group member undergoes a 1-2 session intake with the group therapist. The group start dates will be announced shortly.

These are self-pay groups and members are charged a flat rate per module. Each module is paid for in advance. Teens must be in individual therapy simultaneously with the group; however, they are not required to have a DBT therapist. Please inquire about the potential for adding on DBT phone coaching to your group membership.
