Coping CAT for Childhood Anxiety

What is Coping CAT?

Coping CAT is a cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) program designed specifically for children and adolescents dealing with anxiety. The therapy focuses on teaching young individuals how to recognize their anxious thoughts and develop coping skills to manage anxiety in everyday situations.

How Coping CAT Works

Coping CAT is structured into two main phases:

  1. Skills Training: Children learn how to identify their anxiety triggers, understand the relationship between thoughts and emotions, and develop coping strategies such as deep breathing, problem-solving, and positive self-talk.

  2. Exposure Tasks: Once the child has learned coping skills, they gradually face their fears through structured exposure exercises, building confidence and reducing anxiety over time.

Who Can Benefit from Coping CAT?

Coping CAT is designed for children aged 7 to 13 who struggle with anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety, social anxiety, and separation anxiety. It is also beneficial for children who exhibit avoidance behaviors, helping them to face fears and reduce anxiety-related distress.
