Parent Management Training (PMT)
What is Parent Management Training (PMT)?
PMT is a behavior therapy that focuses on teaching parents effective strategies for managing their child’s behavior. By helping parents reinforce positive behaviors and address negative ones, PMT aims to improve the child’s overall behavior and reduce family stress.
How PMT Works
Parents learn techniques such as:
Positive Reinforcement: Encouraging desired behaviors through rewards and praise.
Consistent Discipline: Setting clear, consistent limits and consequences for negative behaviors.
Effective Communication: Enhancing parent-child communication to prevent misbehavior.
Who Can Benefit from PMT?
PMT is ideal for parents of children with behavioral problems, including those with ADHD, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), or conduct disorder. It’s also effective for parents who struggle to manage their child’s disruptive behavior at home or in school.
