Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT)
What is PCIT?
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is a therapeutic approach designed to improve the relationship between parents and children while addressing behavioral issues. PCIT teaches parents how to manage challenging behaviors while strengthening the parent-child bond through structured interaction.
How PCIT Works
PCIT is conducted in two main phases:
Child-Directed Interaction (CDI): Parents learn to interact with their child in a positive, supportive way to foster a stronger emotional bond.
Parent-Directed Interaction (PDI): Parents are taught effective discipline techniques to manage disruptive behaviors, improving communication and behavior management at home.
Who Can Benefit from PCIT?
PCIT is highly effective for children aged 2 to 7 who exhibit oppositional, aggressive, or disruptive behaviors. It also benefits parents who want to improve their parenting skills and strengthen their relationship with their child.
