Sophie McWhorter is a Licensed Certified Social Worker specializing in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). In addition to DBT, Sophie utilizes other behavior-based modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and Exposure and Response Therapy (ERP) to treat children, adolescents, and young adults with difficulties in emotion regulation, mood or anxiety disorders, personality disorders, trauma related disorders, and co-occurring suicidal or NSSI behavior.
Sophie earned her Master of Social Work along with a specialization in Trauma and Violence from Boston University School of Social Work. During her education, Sophie worked as a therapist at The Veteran Affairs alongside an interdisciplinary team to treat clients presenting with trauma, grief, OCD, mood disorders and cluster B personality disorders. There, she formally trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Exposure and Response Therapy (ERP). Sophie was also comprehensively trained at McLean’s 3East program, where she obtained her foundation in DBT working with individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), trauma, and co-occurring disorders.
When working with clients, Sophie takes a culturally sensitive approach and acknowledges and appreciates all identities. Sophie believes that using evidence-based treatments paired with warmth, collaboration and genuine connection she can assist her clients in reaching their goals and find their life worth living.
