Super Skills for Super Parents

A DBT-C Group for Parents

DBT-C (Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Children) is a skills-based therapy that helps children (and their parents) ages 6 to 12 manage big emotions, improve coping strategies, and build resilience.

More about DBT-C - how it works, who can benefit, and more.

In the context of psychology and DBT therapy, a "supersensor" refers to a child who experiences feelings and their environment more intensely than others, often exhibiting traits like emotional sensitivity, difficulty with regulation, and potential sensory sensitivities.

Supersensor children need “superparents”. Parents cannot be blamed for not being superparents! Being a superparent requires special training. This training helps parents act like firefighters for their children. This means that superparents put out fires, they don’t start them; they aren’t afraid of fires; and they are calm and skillful in exercising strategies to fight fires. Ultimately, superparents help kids develop a sense of safety, self love, and belonging.
